Barb Garey

Barb Garey joined Horizon Asset Management in January, 2019 as Chief Operating Officer. She brings with her the experience and resources related to student housing, market rate housing, regional property management, commercial real estate and residential maintenance services, project management and operational roles and support, along with her extensive experience in lease-up, substantial rehab, marketing and human resource component.

Prior to Barb joining us, she has over 14 years of experience in the multi-family industry, market rate communities, affordable communities and student housing. She led large operational teams and manages large apartment community portfolios. Throughout her career, Barb has worked closely with property owners to maximize the value of their investment with creative business planning, marketing and management. Barb crafted her expertise in property management while spearheading lease ups for several newly constructed communities, such as The View on Fifth and The View on High. Barb has been instrumental in realigning infrastructures, organizing and implementing company branding efforts, developing business systems and executing marketing efforts. Barb continues to know the importance of setting the bar higher and being a role model in the industry. She has achieved operational and performance excellence and her success is driven by creating unparallel strategies, excellent services and innovative opportunities to achieve the highest level of property performance.

Barb attended Otterbein College and graduated with honors and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing. Before getting into the property management, Barb served as the Executive Director of the Ohio Chapter of American College of Emergency Physicians for over 17 years. Barb, her husband and five children reside in Lancaster. She is involved with the school system as a substitute teacher and helps with fundraising campaigns. She is very active in her community and church with such efforts as back pack giveaway and volunteering at the homeless shelter and food pantry.
